Fashion Jewelry Expected to Be Major Winner This Giving Season

June 15th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in News

As consumers tighten their belts in certain areas of their finances in anticipation of a more toned down holiday season, jewelry industry experts shudder at the potential for an over stock disaster among major retailers of fine jewelry. However, this does not mean that all of those in the retail jewelry market will be hurting because consumers are expected to be more attracted than usual to fashion jewelry this season. Some stores, particularly those retail establishments that do heavy business on the web, are expected to double or even triple their stock in anticipation of a holiday rush they have yet to experience since the glory days of internet commerce prior to the turn of the millennium. However, these days far more consumers are cutting costs and shopping online provides a lot of benefits that go far beyond saving money. The added convenience for those who may have to work more this season than in prior years means they will be able to get their shopping done with a lot less hassle this year.

With rising optimism over a possible economic recovery, fashion jewelry is expected to be a very hot gift this year. Consumers are seeking out investments, even when purchasing gifts for friends or loved ones, that are going to rise in value instead of the more rapidly depreciating gifts of past years. Hand crafted products are expected to sell especially well, particularly pieces that incorporate turquoise or gemstones because these colorful pieces reflect the growing optimism that consumers are reportedly hoping to stimulate with their purchases. Savvy investors in fashion jewelry will steer clear of factory produced goods in favor of the hand crafted pieces because these are perceived as having a higher value over the long term, giving a much better return on investment and standing out as truly unique pieces in the minds of the viewer.

During previous times of economic difficulty, jewelry has traditionally sold well as people continue to seek out gifts that can be cherished from one generation to the next, being passed down from one family member to the next. These solid investments give value while still offering something of beauty, a powerfully attractive feature for any gift during the major holiday season.

Many times, those of us who really love and collect jewelry end up wanting to save our pieces even if they are not something that we plan to wear on a regular basis. These pieces might have gone well with our fashions in a bygone era, but perhaps today we are very unlikely to wear them. Then again, there are also times when they seemed like a great idea when we purchased them, but maybe not so much after one or two wearings. Whether it is a bracelet, a necklace or even ear rings, we sometimes feel differently about our jewelry after a while. There are also other pieces which are simply about a sentiment or just for special times. Anyone who wants to keep their collection well organized can do no wrong with the new jewelry frame that is rapidly becoming a main stay for women across the country as one of the most innovative devices in recent years for fans of jewelry.

These devices are a great way to organize any of the pieces that we do not intend to wear on a regular basis and even those that we do wear quite often. Because of their utility, it is often a great idea to have one in our bedrooms. The prices are very low these days, especially from a retailer such as the Jewelry Discount House where prices are geared towards the savvy shopper with a budget in mind. That means they make great gifts, too, so be sure to check out this bargain in the event that someone in the family has a birthday coming up because this is a very handy piece of decoration that serves a valuable purpose in the lives of those who care about their jewelry.

Cheaper Imported Jewelry Challenges Native American Artists and Tourist Community

February 28th, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in News

In the Southwest region of the United States, a virtual flood of cheaply made imported imitation jewelry is dousing the market and wreaking havoc on local communities that rely on such craftsmen to keep their economies afloat. These cheaper pieces, cleverly designed to look exactly like the real, and consequently more expensive, thing are confusing tourists on the lookout for bargains and infuriating Native American artists who have practiced the jewelry making craft for countless centuries. Local authorities have gotten involved in US states such as New Mexico in order to try and stem the flow of illicit jewelry that is being sold in certain areas by unscrupulous merchants.

While imitation jewelry designed to mimic Native American crafts or jewelry from other indigenous cultures across the globe is nothing new, the trade group known as The Indian Arts and Crafts Association has released figures that show nearly 75 percent of the $1 billion in annual income from these goods is being replaced by those selling inauthentic goods that devastate the native artists who create these products. According to the attorney general of New Mexico, as much as 90 percent of the jewelry claimed to be of Native American craftsman ship is currently mislabeled and is, in fact, not authentic. This means that consumers are over paying because they do not realize the worth of the objects that they are purchasing. These false jewelry pieces often look incredibly similar to the real thing, but are actually mass produced in countries far from the lands that they are claimed to be made in.

Some of the faux jewelry manufacturers even go so far as to duplicate the signatures of certain famous Native American craftsman in order to command a higher price. The imitation silver and turquoise pieces, adored around the world by collectors, are especially vulnerable to this form of imitation because they traditionally sell well to tourists who want a genuine piece of the Southwest desert region that ties back into the native peoples that have dwelt here for so long. The strong resemblance of the imitation goods to those pieces such as bracelets or fetish items that sell for hundreds and thousands of dollars means that everyone involved is getting a bad shake. While the duplication of designs is certainly not illegal, selling such designs in a deceptively advertised way certainly is.

Jewelry Isn’t Just About Pleasing Her, It’s About Delighting Her

December 18th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Buying Guides

A man meets a woman, they fall in love and rest becomes the history that transforms both their lives – it’s the oldest story ever told. This story alone will probably be told to more friends, more family members and of course, the couple’s children, than any other tale. It’s the classic story of romance and for the man who’s looking to take this path in his life, nothing is more expedient than understanding the rules of the ritual.

For one thing, making her happy is only part of the aim. A man needs to keep in mind that most girls have been planning not only their wedding day, but the course of their ultimate romance, their entire lives. They’ve spent hours fantasizing about how it would happen, what they would tell their parents and what they would one day be able to tell their children about how their mother and father got swept away into romance. To keep her happy, you’ll want to consider a diamond engagement ring, but to truly delight her? Put it this way, nothing says high class like a Tacori. For decades, these rings have shone so brightly that they have even lit up the eyes of Trista Rehn on the hit reality show The Bachelorette. Women know these rings mean far more than a garden variety diamond ring.

For those who want to add that extra special touch of elegance, to express a heart deep level of commitment then eternity rings are definitely something to consider. This ring goes beyond an engagement ring, beyond a wedding band. As its name implies, this is a ring that uses diamonds to say ‘forever’ several times over. Don’t leave a single doubt in her mind, show her what she truly means to you and there is no doubt that she will be yours to keep. By exceeding the basics and reaching for the stars, a man shows that his love is love is secure and above all else, that is what any woman would quite reasonably expect from the man she intends to live her life alongside.

Rising Gold Prices Mean Fine Jewelry is an Excellent Bargain Right Now

December 15th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in News

With the sharp decline in the dollar’s value over the past year, investors are finding that in comparison with gold’s rising prices, gold wins out as a superior investment. While this investment news might not typically be of interest to fans of fine jewelry, it is being noted by many analysts that fine jewelry which incorporates gold is actually proving itself to be a very smart investment this year. Due to a lowering in the production levels of gold mining around the world and the rising scarcity of this precious metals, the central banks of most major countries have begun buying up tons of gold as a means of shoring up the value of their currency. This has driven the price of gold higher than ever, making it an exceptionally pricey purchase for those investing with dollars, but still expensive for those buying with other, stronger currencies around the globe.

With more than 22,000 jewelry companies competing for consumer dollars in the US economy alone, prices for the 2009 holiday season are bound to be highly attractive, making fine jewelry a potentially excellent investment over the long haul. With such a vicious economy now ruling the roost, there are expected to be far fewer people willing to pay much beyond the absolute bare minimum for jewelry, even as gifts. This means retailers are expected to offer massive discounts in an effort to encourage consumers to spend on jewelry. Those who take advantage of this situation should find that like the post holiday season in 2008, excellent deals are not only plentiful, but smart investing decisions for those who collect jewelry, or want to get started doing so, are much easier to make.

By investing in well priced pieces of gold jewelry now, consumers can expect that the value of gold will continue to rise and thus the value of their individual pieces will rise, as well. Since retailers as a whole are deemed over the sensible level of inventory as whole by most analysts, consumers can expect to reap big rewards from strategically purchased jewelry pieces if they apply common sense and an eye towards the future.

Questions Surround Potential Lindsay Lohan Jewelry Collection

November 25th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in News

Gossip is swirling around American movie starlet and controversial pop sensation Lindsay Lohan after reports surfaced that she is working alongside major jewelers to unveil a new collection in the coming months. According to Lohan herself, she has been in talks with fine jewelry designer Pascal Mouawad and maker Bebe about a partnership to create a collection of exquisite pieces that bear the star’s name. According to Mouawad, such discussions about the launch of a new jewelry line did take place with Lohan, but the negotiations fell through early in the talks and Mouawad has stated via an email to a popular women’s fashion magazine that the partnership is absolutely not happening. This has led to speculation that the pop star may be seeking out other designers with whom to forge a lasting relationship that will result in a signature line of jewelry which bears her increasingly marketable name.

Over the course of the last few years, Lohan has been embroiled in various controversies that have lit up Hollywood tabloids, but in this these modern times such negative press can often be a boon to a budding star or those who seek to re-enter the limelight. However, Lohan already serves as an artistic advisor for a French fashion designer named Emanuel Ungaro, a big name in women’s fashions. Her entrepreneurial activities thus far in her career have consisted of her own line of leggings called 6126 and the Sevin Nyne self tanning brand which she was co-creator of. This has led experts to speculate that Lohan’s next logical step would indeed be a line of fine jewelry similar to those lines created by other stars at similar levels of fame, but it remains unclear as to whether she will accomplish this any time in the near future.

Lohan’s first fashion show in Paris met with strong vocal disapproval from critics and it remains unlikely that she will continue on towards a career in fashion, even as a sideline. Sources now suggest that Lohan may be able to make inroads into the jewelry industry if she can find a willing partner known for solid designs to assist her in conveying her own personal sense of style that so many women around the world have already embraced.

Different Types of Jewelry

November 18th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Guides

Beads:

As timeless as they are, it is no surprise that beads are here with us to stay because they are the oldest form of jewelry known to man. Archaeologists have discovered bead work that is more than 100,000 years old, created using the shells of sea snails and this is believed to be the very first type of jewelry made. Today, beads come in a rainbow of colors, sizes that range from a millimeter to over a centimeter in diameter, and a range of shapes only limited by the human imagination. Materials used to make beads are a large part of determining their value. There are beads made from synthetic materials such as resin or plastic, but there are also beads that come from natural materials such as plant fibers, horn or shell and even gemstones.

Bridal Jewelry:

While most people understand that a marriage ceremony will involve the exchange of wedding rings, it is true that there are quite a few more options that can be included in a ceremony, traditional or otherwise. Cufflinks are becoming increasingly more popular for groomsmen and more brides are offering pendants to their bride’s maids. While diamonds are the traditional jewel chosen for wedding rings, peal is the most often utilized gem for bride’s jewelry such as chokers, other necklaces and even pearl earrings. Some couples even exchange rings or pendants which feature their birthstones as a symbol of what they each bring to the union.

Gemstones:

Gemstones, also known as jewels, are precious or semi precious stones prized for their high level of visual attractiveness, typically centered around their color, shape, luster or ability to interact with light and sparkle. These are the stones that make up the bulk of jewelry made today and they include many common stones you may know such as diamonds, rubies, emeralds or topaz, as well as lesser known stones such as jet, amber, peridot or tanzanite. The value of these stones fluctuates over time as their mining becomes easier or more difficult and also in accordance with their current level of rarity.

Hand crafted:

The history of hand crafted jewelry is a fascinating one that extends far beyond any recorded history thanks to what archaeologists have been able to unearth. As far back as 100,000 years ago, humans were fashioning the earliest jewelry using sea shells. In ancient times, jewelry was often crafted due to a belief that it could give the wearer extra powers or protection from evil spirits. In today’s world, the level of skill and time invested in created hand crafted jewelry gives it a strong sentimental value, as well as a high monetary value since this is not a craft than many practice.

November 18th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in News

In celebration of its 30th year in business, a jewelry store in the United States town of Wyckoff, New Jersey is giving away free bags of jewelry that they want those who find them to keep. The shop, Devon Fine Jewelry, is run by owner Nancy Schuring, a former school teacher turned jeweler who came up with the idea as a way to give back to the local community while celebrating her 30th year at the reins of the retail jewelry store.

Local residents were shocked, yet delighted, by this display of generosity from Devon Fine Jewelry and many have been reported as being thrilled to take part in the hunt for the white bags that will be randomly placed around the town for anyone who to find. Whoever finds the bags is entitled to keeping the jewelry inside and Schuring says that the total of the gift bags comes to over $25,000 all together. Finders keepers is the motto of the day and Schuring hopes that this gesture will engender more goodwill for her shop which has thrived in this town for the past three decades. According to reports, Schuring is extremely excited to be holding the event and pleased that she is in a financial position to hold such a giveaway.

The bags of jewelry have been planned in coordination with the local police force of Wyckoff so that the officers are aware of the event and can respond appropriately if needed. The bags will be placed in places of high visibility around local restaurants, shops and other public places such as Franklin Lakes, Glen Rock, Mahwah, Ramsey, Walkwick, Ridgewood, Oakland, Midland Park and Allendale which are all towns outside of the Wyckoff city limits.

While the jewelry within the bags is designed for women, this is expected to be an equally excellent surprise for men who can use the jewelry for gifts to give a woman they are fond of. Each bag will contain a note that reads:

“This is yours to keep. We’d just like you to contact us and let us know you found it.”

Response is expected to be great to this innovative publicity garnering event.
